Calera Celebrates 50 Years of Pinot Noir Pioneering

Written by

As part of Calera’s 50th anniversary celebrations, head winemaker Mike Waller recently joined us in the UK to mark this milestone with clients, sommeliers and the trade at large. His visit included hosting a standout masterclass at our 25th Anniversary Portfolio Tasting, where he explored six single-vineyard Pinot Noirs from the storied Mt. Harlan estate.

Waller, who succeeded Calera’s legendary founder, Josh Jensen, has spent the past 18 years preserving and evolving the vision that first put Calera on the global fine wine map. His reflections on Calera’s legacy and future were recently captured in two in-depth features in the trade press.

Calera’s wines are now recognised among California’s most precise and ageworthy, with Mt. Harlan’s limestone soils offering a Burgundian counterpoint to the richness of the New World. Whether it’s Pinot Noir, Chardonnay or Viognier, Mike Waller continues to craft wines that speak to both place and pedigree.
